My name is Gabriel Aguto and I am the assistant director for this project. I’ve been a filmmaker for a long time, starring in my first action packed movie, filmed on a tiny digital camera and edited in Window Movie Maker, in fifth grade. Obviously my equipment and content quality progressed over the years, but I have never attempted a project of this scale. Thus I hopped upon the opportunity to work on a documentary. Japanese long distance running is certainly an intriguing concept. Frankly, it is not the most exciting of sports, lacking flashy highlights, scores, and complex rules, yet it holds a committed and large fanbase in Japan. My greatest interest in this project is to find out the cause of this popularity, and many aspects of Japanese society, from their intense work culture to their unique take on spirituality, could help provide the answer.
